The Autism Research Institute
The Autism Research Institute (ARI), a non-profit organization, was established in 1967. ARI is primarily devoted to conducting research, and to disseminating the results of research, on the causes of autism and on methods of preventing, diagnosing and treating autism and other severe behavioral disorders of childhood. They provide information based on research to parents and professionals throughout the world and have translations in Spanish,French,Italian and Russian.
DAN
DAN stands for Defeat Autism Now. DAN! was created in order to address the limitations of available conventional treatments and the understanding of the disorder. The participants wanted to move away from traditional thinking and have come up with an approach which is progressive and cutting-edge, and which does not rely on using drugs to treat autism.Their approach is more holistic and involves diet, intestinal function, vitamin deficiencies, excess proteins, viruses, vaccinations, antibiotics, probiotics, amino acids, and more. National Autistic Society
The National Autistic Society exists to champion the rights and interests of all people with autism and to ensure that they and their families receive quality services appropriate to their needs. Started in 1962 it is a registered charity and workd across many areas to help people with autism. Their website includes information about autism and Asperger syndrome, the NAS and its services and activities. They have telephone helplines and e-mail support.
The Autism Society of America
The Autism Society of America (ASA) was started by Bernard Rimland in 1965 and has grown over the years into a great resource with a huge amount of information about autism. The ASA has, what they call, Chapters in most areas of the country, mainly run by parents who provide local support and information. They offer support meetings, awareness events and fun activities for all the family and other interested parties.
Cure Autism Now
Cure Autism Now has been around since 1995. It is an organization of parents, clinicians and leading scientists who are pushing forward research into treating autism biomedically. They also have a number of chapters around the country raising awareness of autism and funds for more research.
